Philosophy

WMWA is committed to excellent design within the context of social and ecological responsibility. Our philosophy is based upon three principles:

Design must be of a place

We create designs that are tied to local ecology, history, material, tradition, and people. Site hydrology and flora are always prioritized in our work. Geology, geography, and cultural history inspire and inform what we do.

Design must be sustainable

The most sustainable designs are the most ecologically and economically efficient. When guided by place, sustainable design is inherently beautiful. Sustainable designs are more resilient to change, often require lower initial cost, result in reduced maintenance, and always provide lower life cycle costs.

Design must be collaborative

We collaborate with architects, engineers, scientists, clients and the public to create exceptional places.

WMWA is committed to excellent design within the context of social and ecological responsibility.
